Honoring a Legacy Built on Trust and Integrity
Top-producing Montecito and Santa Barbara Realtor Cristal Clarke reflects on being affiliated with a company that represents the standards she brings to her own real estate practice: integrity, long-term thinking and trust.
For more than six decades, Warren Buffett has been synonymous with Berkshire Hathaway and with principles that extend beyond the company's financial success.

A Historic Leadership Transition
On September 18, 2026, Berkshire Hathaway announced that Warren Buffett has stepped down as Chairman and will become Chairman Emeritus while remaining a member of the Board of Directors. His son, Howard G. Buffett, a Berkshire director since 1993, has succeeded him as Chairman. Greg Abel continues as Berkshire Hathaway's Chief Executive Officer.
For Cristal Clarke, whose real estate practice is affiliated with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties in Montecito and Santa Barbara, the transition is an opportunity to recognize the extraordinary legacy behind one of the world's most recognized business names.
“I wish Warren Buffett all the best as he begins this new chapter,” says Cristal. “The principles he established have created a legacy that reaches far beyond one company. I am proud to be associated with a brand that shares those values, and I look forward to seeing Howard Buffett carry that legacy forward.”

Global Strength Behind Local Real Estate
Cristal's clients work directly with her and benefit from her knowledge of Montecito, Santa Barbara and the surrounding communities. Her affiliation with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties adds the resources and reach of an international real estate network.
That combination is especially important at the level of the market in which Cristal works. In the 2026 RealTrends rankings, based on 2025 sales, Cristal ranked #1 in Montecito, #13 in California and #36 nationwide among individual agents by sales volume, with more than $317M million in closed sales.
Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties has nearly 3,000 real estate professionals across more than 60 Southern California offices, while the larger Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices network includes more than 50,000 real estate professionals and nearly 1,500 offices around the world. For sellers in Montecito and Santa Barbara, that reach can help put a property in front of real estate professionals and potential buyers well beyond the Central Coast.
But the value of the affiliation goes beyond the size of the network. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties provides its agents with an extensive marketing and technology infrastructure. Resources include a Design Studio, social media tools, targeted digital strategies, premier online syndication, professional print materials and support from a dedicated public relations and advertising team. Agents also have access to advanced technology, continuing education and in-house legal resources.
Those tools give Cristal additional ways to market a property while allowing her to tailor the strategy to the home and the seller. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices' broader marketing platform includes customizable digital, print and video materials, website and social media tools, targeted advertising and resources for creating coordinated marketing campaigns.

Luxury Marketing for Exceptional Properties
For high-end properties, the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Luxury Collection adds another level of specialized support. Luxury Collection Specialists such as Cristal Clarke must meet the network's standards for the designation and have access to marketing resources and global connections designed specifically for the luxury market. The program combines local expertise with technology, professional networking and exposure intended to reach affluent buyers around the world.
That can include Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices' digital and social media channels, global property showcases and media relationships, as well as Prestige, its luxury lifestyle and property magazine. Published three times a year in print and digital editions, Prestige showcases distinctive properties from across the network to an affluent audience.
For the Santa Barbara and Montecito markets, where the right buyer for a distinctive property may come from Los Angeles, New York, London or elsewhere, those connections can complement Cristal's own local relationships and knowledge of the market.
“Real estate will always be personal,” Cristal says. “My clients rely on my knowledge of this market, my relationships and my commitment to their goals. Having the resources and reach of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices behind me helps me bring even more to that relationship.”

Looking Ahead
At 96, Warren Buffett leaves the Chairman's role with a business legacy that extends far beyond Berkshire Hathaway. Generations of investors, entrepreneurs and business leaders have looked to his approach to leadership for lessons in patience, discipline, long-term thinking and staying focused on what matters. His annual letters to shareholders became required reading for many in the business world, notable not only for their investment insights but also for Buffett's willingness to discuss mistakes as candidly as successes. Berkshire Hathaway itself has described that candor and his relationship with shareholders as central to the culture he built.
Perhaps most remarkable is that Buffett is stepping away from the Chairman's role on his own terms. After more than 60 years at Berkshire, he wrote that he still has “the best job in the world” and expressed confidence in the company's future under its new leadership. Cristal agrees:
“Congratulations to Howard Buffett as he takes on this important role, and my very best wishes to Warren Buffett,” Cristal says. “I'm proud to be associated with the Berkshire Hathaway name and look forward to this next chapter.”
